The two top teams of the women’s SEC tournament — the ordering of which was decided by a coin toss — will face off in the rubber match on Sunday after splitting their first two meetings: The Gamecocks beat the Longhorns 67-50 at home on Sunday, Jan. 12, though Texas got one back on South Carolina on Sunday, Feb. 9 with a 66-62 win.
South Carolina advanced through the semifinals on Saturday with an 83-75 thrashing of 5 seed Oklahoma, a game in which five Gamecocks players scored in the double digits, led by Joyce Edwards’ game-high 21 points off the bench. Vic Schaefer’s Longhorns, meanwhile, beat Kim Mulkey and 3 seed LSU on Saturday, 56-49, in part due to the strength of Madison Booker’s game-high 25 points.
