Snow is beginning to intensify in parts of Maine while other areas are dealing with a wintry mix and rain during Monday’s winter storm.The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Maine that will be in effect until 10 p.m. Monday for most of Maine.The areas of Maine not included in the advisory are coastal areas of Cumberland and York counties, and northern areas of Oxford, Franklin and Somerset counties.INTERACTIVE RADAR | CLOSINGS & DELAYS | TRAFFIC MAPThe coast will get snow, but it will accumulate only on grassy surfaces, with maybe some slush on the roads before changing to all rain by the afternoon. In fact, the rain could be moderate to heavy at times.Further inland, a couple of inches of snow will fall through the late morning and early afternoon, coming down quickly.North of Sebago Lake, toward Lewiston-Auburn and into Augusta, Waterville, and points north, we’re looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow. In these areas, all precipitation will be snow, falling at a good clip for several hours during the afternoon, making roads slippery into the evening commute.The northern terrain and mountains will see a bit less, with 1 to 3 inches of snow.By Tuesday, temperatures will climb into the mid-to-upper 40s, leading to significant melting.

PORTLAND, Maine —Snow is beginning to intensify in parts of Maine while other areas are dealing with a wintry mix and rain during Monday’s winter storm.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for most of Maine that will be in effect until 10 p.m. Monday for most of Maine.

The areas of Maine not included in the advisory are coastal areas of Cumberland and York counties, and northern areas of Oxford, Franklin and Somerset counties.

The coast will get snow, but it will accumulate only on grassy surfaces, with maybe some slush on the roads before changing to all rain by the afternoon. In fact, the rain could be moderate to heavy at times.

Further inland, a couple of inches of snow will fall through the late morning and early afternoon, coming down quickly.

North of Sebago Lake, toward Lewiston-Auburn and into Augusta, Waterville, and points north, we’re looking at 3 to 6 inches of snow. In these areas, all precipitation will be snow, falling at a good clip for several hours during the afternoon, making roads slippery into the evening commute.

The northern terrain and mountains will see a bit less, with 1 to 3 inches of snow.

By Tuesday, temperatures will climb into the mid-to-upper 40s, leading to significant melting.
