Wildfire erupts in Myrtle Beach, causing evacuations from neighborhoods

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. — A wildfire in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, has forced residents from multiple neighborhoods to evacuate the area.

The South Carolina Forestry Commission estimates the fire spans nearly 1,200 acres. Horry County Fire Rescue reports that firefighters are working to contain the blaze, which is affecting the Carolina Forest area.

The county is receiving assistance from over 30 public safety partners. State agencies have also deployed resources, including planes that are dropping water on the fire.

More than 400 emergency personnel are actively responding to the situation.

At this time, the fire department says no injuries have been reported.
