Quinta Brunson and Kevin Jay Anik are going their separate ways.
The Abbott Elementary star filed for divorce on March 19, citing irreconcilable differences. Though Brunson has mainly kept her relationship private, she previously confirmed their engagement on Instagram in July 2020. However, she never revealed details about their eventual wedding in October 2021.
Brunson first referred to Anik, who works in California’s legal cannabis industry, per The New Yorker, as her “husband” at the 2022 Emmys. “My wonderful husband … he’s the most supportive man I’ve ever known,” she said during her historic win for outstanding writing for a comedy series.
Two years later, while accepting the Emmy award for outstanding lead actress in a comedy once again, Brunson also mentioned Anik in her speech.
“I love my husband. I’m so happy. I love my cast. Oh, I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much,” she said.

Though the exact date they got engaged is unknown, Brunson did confirm their engagement on Instagram in July 2020 with a photo of her sporting a diamond ring on her left finger, simply captioning the post, “More good news.”

Brunson almost never posted about Anik on social media. In fact, she never publicly confirmed their marriage until she referred to Anik as her husband in her Emmys speech. She later thanked him again during her 2023 Golden Globes win for best musical or comedy actress award.
Despite staying out of the spotlight, Anik appeared to be supportive of Brunson behind the scenes.
In addition to calling him the “most supportive man” in her Emmys speech, Anik stepped out with the actress at a handful of events, including the Time 100 Gala in June 2022 when she was honored as one of the publication’s most influential people.

The couple attended the FWRD party in Los Angeles, which was held in honor of Dwyane Wade‘s induction into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Brunson wowed in a colorful, matching crop top and skirt, while Anik looked effortlessly cool in a Gucci jacket, black denim and white sneakers.
Brunson filed for divorce from Anik on March 19, 2025. She listed their date of separation as “TBD” and cited irreconcilable differences.
According to court docs obtained by PEOPLE, the pair have a postnuptial agreement in place.
