Though we are already a week into March, the real madness has yet to begin.
There are still a lot of men’s college basketball games left to be played over the next week until the final NCAA tournament bracket is released next Sunday, March 16. Michigan State and Michigan are meeting in the Big Ten regular season finale Sunday at the Breslin Center, followed by a full week of conference tournament action.
Both teams from the state of Michigan are firmly in the March Madness field of 68, which will be announced next Sunday at 6 p.m. on CBS.
Teams on the bubble of making the field still have a week left to solidify their resume, whether it is making a run to secure an automatic bid by winning a conference tournament or clinching one more win to tip the scales in its favor.

When is NCAA tournament Selection Sunday?
The NCAA tournament bracket will be finalized Sunday, March 16. The selection show takes place at 6 p.m. on CBS, immediately following the championship game for the Big Ten tournament, which tips off at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
When do March Madness brackets come out?
The bracket will be revealed region by region on the CBS selection show next Sunday. It starts with the region including the top overall No. 1 seed, which is projected to be one of Duke, Auburn or Houston. As soon as the bracket is fully revealed, it will be available to print out or sign up for a March Madness competition at USA TODAY Sports, so you can start predicting the exact path to the 2025 national championship.
When do NCAA tournament games start?
The 2025 NCAA tournament begins with the “First Four” round, pitting the final teams to sneak into the dance and a pair of 16-seeds against each other to finalize the four open spots in the Round of 64. The First Four games are March 18-19 in Dayton, Ohio. The Round of 64, where MSU and Michigan will begin the tournament run, starts March 20-21.
Michigan State bracketology projections for March Madness
MSU, winners of six straight to take the Big Ten crown for the first time since 2020, is projected as a No. 2 seed in USA TODAY’s latest bracketology forecast. The Spartans are the sixth team listed, behind Duke, Auburn, Houston and Florida as No. 1 seeds and Tennessee as the top No. 2 seed.
MSU is projected in the Midwest Region against 15-seed Towson of the Colonial Athletic Association, with the game in Cleveland.
Michigan bracketology projections for March Madness
Michigan, which has lost three of its past five games to fall to MSU in the conference title race, is listed as a No. 5 seed in USA TODAY’s latest bracketology projections. Michigan is the top No. 5 seed and projected to play Yale in Providence in the Midwest Region.
This will be the first time Michigan reaches the Big Dance since 2022, after missing it in the final two years of Juwan Howard’s tenure as coach. Dusty May was hired last May to replace the fired Howard.
