NFL playoff action is in full swing with a six-game wild card weekend. Saturday’s action saw AFC matchups between the No. 5 seed Los Angeles Chargers and No. 4 seed Houston Texans and a third game of the season between the No. 6 seed Pittsburgh Steelers and No. 3 seed Baltimore Ravens.
Sunday is the biggest day of the weekend with three games, starting in the AFC. The No. 2 seed Buffalo Bills host the No. 7 seed Denver Broncos to kick off the day. MVP candidate Josh Allen leads the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL against one of the top three defenses in the league featuring star cornerback Patrick Surtain II.
The day continues in the NFC starting with the No. 2 seed Philadelphia Eagles hosting the No. 7 seed Green Bay Packers. These teams faced off in Week 1 but are in much different places now. The Packers’ defense has improved steadily throughout the season. The Eagles are better on both sides of the ball as new coordinators Kellen Moore (offense) and Vic Fangio (defense) have implemented their systems.
Sunday’s action finishes with another NFC contest between the No. 3 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and No. 6 seed Washington Commanders. Tampa Bay earned their second consecutive division title with a Week 18 win over New Orleans. They’re in the playoffs behind a top-five scoring offense and passing attack. Washington’s in the postseason behind their efficient and prolific offense as well.

Storylines for today’s NFL games
- Denver was the last team in the AFC to clinch a playoff spot and their reward is a date with Buffalo in sub-freezing temperatures. Broncos coach Sean Payton is back in the playoffs and faces a team that won 10 of 11 games before resting its starters in Week 18. Denver’s defense was one of the best units in the league this season but faces a challenging task on the road against Buffalo.
- Philadelphia will get a rested Saquon Barkley back after he took Week 18 off. Quarterback Jalen Hurts‘ availability is up in the air as he goes through concussion protocol. He may be rusty if he’s back, so it’ll be up to the Packers’ improving defense to slow down the Eagles’ potent running attack.
- Washington’s offense has been its strong suit all year but Tampa Bay coach Todd Bowles has a penchant for throwing tough defenses at rookie quarterbacks. In Week 1, the Buccaneers held Washington to just 2 of 8 third down conversions and just 161 passing yards. If the Commanders’ offense can produce, it’ll be down to the defense to hold up against the Buccaneers’ prolific passing game.
