As far as Monday mornings go, not many people had a better one than Rory McIlroy, who got to enjoy a special moment with his daughter.
The 35-year-old from Northern Ireland topped J.J. Spaun in a three-hole aggregate playoff to win the 2025 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass. He birdied the par-5 16th before making bogey at 17 and 18, but the 1-over total was enough to beat J.J. Spaun, who tripled the par-3 17th after hitting his tee shot into the water.
The win was McIlroy’s second Players title and the 28th of his PGA Tour career, but one of the best moments came as he stepped off the green to celebrate before the trophy ceremony.
His wife, Erica Stoll, and daughter, Poppy, were waiting for him behind the 18th green, and Poppy handed him a flower during their heartwarming embrace.
McIlroy took the flower with him to his press conference, and he was asked for it.
“Poppy picked it for me,” McIlroy said. “She gave it to me just after I won. I think there was one more flower in it but it disintegrated in my back pocket. But she, she gave it to me.”
