(WLUK) — The championship matchup is now set in the first-ever 12-team College Football Playoff: No. 7 Notre Dame vs. No. 8 Ohio State.
On Monday, Jan. 20 the teams will face off in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium which will result in one of two Wisconsinites getting his hands on the trophy.
Carson Hinzman, a junior from Spring Valley, is the starting center for the Buckeyes. Billy Schrauth, a junior from Campbellsport, is a starting offensive lineman for the Fighting Irish.
Schrauth played high school football at Saint Mary’s Springs in Fond du Lac where he was part of their state runner-up team in his senior season.
Last season Schrauth was a 2023 Joe Moore Award Semifinalist which is an award given to the best offensive line in college football.
Hinzman played high school football at St. Croix Central in Hammond, Wis. There he was a five-time all-state selection and all-region honoree six times.
The College Football Playoff debuted in 2014 with a four team format. In 2023 the CFP Board of Managers voted to expand the CFP to 12 teams. 2024 was the first year of that expansion.
Ohio State beat Texas, 28-14, Friday night to advance to the championship.
Notre Dame beat Penn State, 27-24, Thursday night to advance.
