SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, FLA. (WSVN) – Miami-Dade homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured Sunday night.
Shortly after 9:15 p.m., police received a ShotSpotter alert near Southwest 265th Street and 138th Court.
“Multiple ppl shot, 11200 Southwest 248th Street,” said a dispatcher over Broadcastify police scanner. “Possibly shot in the neck and the outer torso area [inaudible].”
According to authorities, officers spent hours on the scene canvassing for clues.
“Units arrived on that scene and canvassed the area for any victims or any evidence, and were not able to find any evidence at that time,” said Miami-Dade Police Det. Andre Martin.
At approximately 9:52 p.m., a passerby flagged down officers near a Wawa gas station at Southwest 112th Avenue and Southwest 248th Street to report two men suffering from gunshot wounds inside a vehicle.
“A good samaritan flagged down the officers who were nearby and notified them there were gunshot victims in the vehicle. Officers immediately went to that vehicle and attempted to render aid to those victims. Sadly one of those victims was pronounced deceased on scene,” said Martin.
One victim was transported to Jackson South Medical Center in critical but stable condition, police said.
Officials identified the deceased victim as 37-year-old JD Jones Jr.
Detectives believe the shooting was an isolated incident and did not occur at the gas station.
