Shelter-in-place issued at University of Virginia

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – UPDATE: UVA Police have confirmed the search for Nyeem Hill has expanded to Central Grounds.

UVA has canceled classes until further notice.

The University of Virginia has issued a shelter-in-place.

At 8:13 a.m. a Virginia State Police trooper attempted to make a traffic stop of a Chevrolet Impala on Fontaine Avenue for an expired inspection sticker.

VSP says the driver took the Ivy Road exit and fled from the car while it was still in drive. The Impala struck a State Police vehicle and at least one other vehicle. No injuries were reported.

According to officials, police are looking for the suspect, Nyeem Hill, along Alderman Road.

Students, faculty, and staff are advised to shelter in place on Grounds.

The suspect, Nyeem Hill, is a black male, 6′1″, 170lbs. wearing a grey hoodie.

Officials say Hill fled from police following a traffic stop on Ivy Road.

Hill has a known criminal history and gang affiliation, according to UVA Police.

At this time, Hill has no known affiliation with the University of Virginia.
