Shakira showed why she’s Latin music royalty at the 2025 GRAMMYs, where she delivered a performance of one of her earliest hits, 1998’s “Ojos Así,” followed by her viral Bizarrap collaboration, “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” from her GRAMMY-winning album Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran.
The performance — her first on the GRAMMYs stage since 2007 — punctuated a triumphant moment for the Colombian superstar, who shortly before the occasion won her fourth career GRAMMY. Bathed in dim, warm light and smoke, Shakira began with a stripped-back version of “Ojos Así” that went heavy on drums while showing off her sensual belly-dancing. Following a short dance break, she launched into her “Bzrp Music Sessions,” bringing the she-wolf energy of Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran through its self-confident bars and cheeky yet scathing disses.
Shakira’s GRAMMY win for Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran marks her third victory for Best Latin Pop Album, having previously won for Shakira – MTV Unplugged in 2001 — her first-ever GRAMMY win — and more recently, her previous album El Dorado in 2018.
In the six years since El Dorado, Shakira underwent a life-changing event with the breakup of her longtime relationship, for which Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran served as a therapeutic outlet. “Making this body of work has been an alchemical process. While writing each song I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength,” she said on Instagram.
Shakira’s triumph was as personal as it was professional. Her “Sessions” with Bizarrap set streaming records, and another, “TQG” with Karol G, ascended to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. Both tracks earned the singer three Latin GRAMMYs in 2023, for Song Of The Year, Best Pop Song and Best Urban Fusion/Performance.
Following its March 2024 release, Las Mujeres maintained momentum with two more Latin GRAMMY nominations and a win in the newly created Best Latin Electronic Music Performance (“Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53 [Tiësto Remix])”). As a result of its success, Shakira became the first woman with No. 1 albums across four decades on the Billboard Latin album charts — a resounding testament to her longevity.
Shakira is continuing her run with new single “Soltera,” released this past September, and a forthcoming world tour scheduled to begin later this month.
