Popular comedian and ‘LatinXL’ producer dies at 28

LOS ANGELES — Comedian Ken Flores died on Tuesday, according to his manager, Cameron Silzle. He was 28.

Flores’ body was discovered at his Los Angeles home around 2 p.m. Tuesday. No cause of death was immediately available, according to the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.

Flores’ family confirmed his death in an Instagram post Wednesday.

“It is with great sadness that we confirm the untimely passing of our friend, brother, and son, Kenyi Flores,” the post read. “Please respect our privacy at this time as we are all shocked and (devastated) by this loss.”

Prior to his death, Flores was in the middle of his national “Butterfly Effect Tour,” which began Jan. 10 in Portland, Oregon, and was scheduled to take place across the U.S. through April 19. His final show was Jan. 25 in Norcross, Georgia.

“We were gonna break seven figures (with income from this tour). We were gonna be millionaires together. It was gonna be special,” Rene Vaca, a close friend of Flores’ who had been touring with him, told the Los Angeles Times. “Hopefully, we can still do it in honor of him and give all the money to his family or something.”

Flores filmed his first comedy special in December, though it has not yet been released, per the Times. He also produced LatinXL, a comedy show that helped promote Latinos in the Los Angeles comedy scene.

“LatinXL WOULD NOT exist without Ken,” the show wrote in an Instagram post Wednesday. “The XL was a nod to Ken for having an ‘XTRA large personality’ and being such a force…which crowds all over the country would inevitably love. Our hearts are with his family. Our grief is shared amongst all our friends and peers. We will always Love you Ken, Thanks for literally everything and beyond.”
