Pistons add veteran guard just before NBA trade deadline

The Detroit Pistons wrapped up their NBA trade deadline by flipping some of their previously acquired assets for one of their biggest needs in their 2025 playoff push.

Detroit acquired veteran guard Dennis Schroder shortly before the 3 p.m. Thursday NBA trade deadline, according to several reports.

Schroder is averaging 14.4 points and 5.5 assists per game this season playing for the Nets and Warriors. He shot 45 percent from the field as a starter through 23 games for Brooklyn before being traded to Golden State in December.

Schroder is a 12-year NBA veteran who has played for eight teams.

The acquisition is part of a massive four-team trade that sent Jimmy Butler from Miami to Golden State. K.J. Martin and Josh Richardson, acquired by the Pistons in the last two days, are expected to go to Utah along with a second-round pick in exchange for Schroder, according to Bleacher Report.

The Pistons have needed a veteran ballhandler in addition to Cade Cunningham in the absence of the injured Jaden Ivey. Schroder gives them that as they look to complete their unlikely push to the playoffs.
