Packers expected to sign former 49ers guard Aaron Banks in free agency

The Green Bay Packers are expected to sign free agent guard Aaron Banks, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Per Rapoport, the expected deal is worth $78 million over four seasons.

Banks, a second-round pick of the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 draft, has been a primary starter for the 49ers at left guard during each of the last three seasons.

The signing of Banks all but confirms the Packers will lose center Josh Myers in free agency and signals a position switch for starting left guard Elgton Jenkins, who could move to a familiar position at center in 2025.

According to Pro Football Focus, Banks has allowed only two career sacks while playing almost 1,500 pass-blocking snaps over the last three seasons. Last season, Banks gave up one sack, four quarterback hits and 20 hurries.

Experience in Kyle Shanahan’s run scheme should make for an easy transition to the Packers offense under Matt LaFleur.

Banks is the Packers’ first expected signing of free agency. The team re-signed linebacker Isaiah McDuffie and kicker Brandon McManus last week.
