GREATER LANDOVER, Md. — Social causes are important to the Washington Commanders players. Coming from diverse backgrounds, they understand how the Commanders’ platform can shed light on American social issues, which is why they scored a touchdown for compassion this past weekend during the matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
Using their cleats to share powerful stories, the Commanders transformed ordinary football footwear into fashionable and unique designs that showcased their charitable passions, extending far beyond the field.
Each design displays an important motto and the name of a foundation to amplify their mission. From local youth programs to global organizations, these shoes highlight stories of resilience, dedication, knowledge, and service with every step on the gridiron.
Going into the specifics, each player justified their choice. For example, rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels clarified the foundation he wanted to showcase: ‘St. Jude is leading the way the world understands, treats, and defeats childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.’
Other players, like Dyami Brown and Nick Bellore, also explained their reasoning for the choices. Brown said, ‘The White Ribbon Project promotes awareness about lung cancer by changing public perception of the disease.’
On the other hand, Bellore stated, ‘The funds raised by all those who participate will go to fund the David Warsen Legacy 5K race/walk. We want to remember David in a way that is unique to him. It is an event meant for those who treasure him to have fun together in a community of people who support one another in love, as well as to promote fitness and health for us all. In turn, additional gifts raised will go toward care packages sent to our Navy SEALs and other forces deployed to Afghanistan.’
As part of the NFL’s broader ‘My Cause, My Cleats’ campaign, the Washington Commanders are demonstrating that they are agents of change with a positive imprint on society. By using these shoes, all the players are showing their heartfelt commitment to their cause.
