Most watched hockey games: Where the Blue Jackets at Ohio Stadium rank

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Saturday’s game between the Columbus Blue Jackets and Detroit Red Wings at Ohio Stadium is now officially one of the most attended hockey games ever.

NHL and Ohio State organizers announced the attendance for Saturday’s NHL Stadium Series game as 94,751 fans. That number makes it the third most attended ice hockey game ever and the second-most in NHL history.

  1. 104,173 at Michigan Stadium (Michigan vs. Michigan State on Dec. 11, 2010)
  2. 105,491 at Michigan Stadium (Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs on Jan. 1, 2014)
  3. 94,751 at Ohio Stadium (Columbus Blue Jackets vs. Detroit Red Wings on Mar. 1, 2025)
  4. 85,630 at Cotton Bowl (Dallas Stars vs. Nashville Predators on Jan. 1, 2020)
  5. 79,690 at MetLife Stadium (New York Rangers vs. New York Islanders on Feb. 18, 2024)

Hockey fans from around the state and Midwest gathered for a heap of festivities around Columbus with a pre-game fan fest and concerts from O.A.R. and Twenty One Pilots.

This historic attendance mark is the highest for a non-Ohio State football game sporting event ever at the Horseshoe. The previous mark was held by a friendly soccer match between Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in 2016, when over 86,000 attended.
