Maxx Crosby, dream trade target of Detroit Lions fans, gets massive extension from Raiders

  • Las Vegas Raiders star pass rusher Maxx Crosby signed a three-year contract extension worth a reported $106.5 million.
  • Crosby was a popular hypothetical trade target for the Detroit Lions before the 2024 trade deadline.

One of the most desired names in hypothetical trade talks from Detroit Lions fans will not be going anywhere.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Las Vegas Raiders announced they signed star pass rusher Maxx Crosby to a three-year contract extension. The deal is worth $106.5 million, according to multiple reports, which would make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL at $35.5 million per year.

Shortly after the deal was announced, Crosby posted a video where he said he wanted to be “A Raider for life.”

Crosby, a two-time second-team All-Pro who was born in Michigan and played college football for Eastern Michigan, was a popular dream trade target among fans ahead of the 2024 trade deadline as the Lions searched for an infusion of pass-rush talent to help replace the injured Aidan Hutchinson. However, nothing ever came of it and the Lions ultimately traded for former Cleveland Brown Za’Darius Smith.

Crosby’s extension reset the market for pass rushers, including Hutchinson, who is up for an extension off of his rookie deal this offseason. The Lions‘ star pass rusher led the team with 7½ sacks in five games before suffering a broken leg in October.

BIG PICTURE: Detroit Lions offseason to-do list: What should team prioritize in free agency, draft?

Perennial All-Pro pass rusher Myles Garrett remains adamant about his trade request to leave the Cleveland Browns. Browns general manager Andrew Berry said the team will not trade him, and Lions general manager Brad Holmes said “probably not” when asked about adding another superstar defensive end at the NFL combine last week with Hutchinson’s extension and other extensions for players like safety Kerby Joseph on the horizon.

NFL roster movement has picked up this week ahead of the beginning of NFL free agency and the new league year, which starts next week.
