LIVE: Severe Thunderstorm moving through eastern Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – Severe thunderstorms are moving through eastern Nebraska. A Dust Storm Advisory is in place for Lincoln and Lancaster County until 6:15 p.m.

Winds should increase a bit Friday night into Saturday morning with rain and snow possible as well. There could be some low visibility for those that see snow in mainly Central and Eastern Nebraska making travel difficult.

Severe Storms Likely Friday Afternoon

The line of thunderstorms should be in Northeastern Nebraska around 6pm before exiting Nebraska around 8pm.

Isolated to scattered severe thunderstorms are possible with damaging winds and large hail the main threats. A few tornadoes are possible as well. Showers and maybe non-severe thunderstorms look to develop in North Central and Western Nebraska late afternoon and into the evening.

That area of precipitation will move east through Central and Eastern Nebraska Friday night into Saturday morning. It should get cold enough, especially in Northern Nebraska that rain changes to a rain-snow mix or snow. The precipitation wraps up in Northeasten Nebraska early Saturday morning. Snowfall accumulation of trace to 1″ is possible. The combination of strong winds and snow will lead to low visibility (one half of a mile or less) so travel will be very difficult to potentially impossible. Clouds will decrease in the afternoon Saturday, but it remains windy through the day with wind gusts in the afternoon still around 35 to 45 mph.

Sunday looks to be mostly sunny and nice. It should be warm again Monday and Tuesday. Another storm system could impact the area Tuesday night and Wednesday. There will be a chance of rain and snow. It should be windy as well. After a much cooler Wednesday, a seasonable day is in the forecast for Thursday.
