(TNND) — Actress Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out against the “bullies” who continue to criticize her appearance and the people who “can’t seem to grow up” with her.
The 21-year-old “Stranger Things” star posted a video on Instagram discussing the increase in articles she says “are so desperate to tear young women down” and called out several journalists and the headlines they have written.
“This isn’t journalism. This is bullying,” Brown said.
I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman,” she continued. “I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself.
Brown said society has become a place where it’s easier to criticize than it is to pay a compliment and questioned why saying something nice makes people “uncomfortable.”
“Let’s do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing,” Brown concluded in the video.
Her comments came less than a week after the actress shared a British Vogue article thanking the magazine for writing the headline, “No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks.”
Brown debuted new blonde locks during her ongoing press tour for the Netflix film, “The Electric State” which generated excitement and criticism.
One of the people she called out in her video, actor Matt Lucas, apologized to Brown and explained that he was “mortified” by an article claiming he “slammed” her appearance.
Despite the negativity, Brown has received an outpouring of support from peers in her industry such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Sharon Stone and Matthew Modine saying they are proud of her.
