How Manchester United played out a first-leg score draw in the Europa League against Real Sociedad

Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty cancelled out Joshua Zirkzee’s opener as Real Sociedad and Manchester United played out a 1-1 draw in the Europa League.

The two teams will head to Old Trafford next week for the second leg of this last-16 tie knowing that victory will take them into the quarter-final.

Zirkzee’s opener, his first goal in Europe for United, came in the 57th minute as his strike from the edge of the penalty area somehow caught out goalkeeper Alex Remiro and rolled into the back of the net.

Just as United looked to be heading for a vital first-leg win, they were pegged back. Despite no on-field protests, VAR adjudged Bruno Fernandes to have handled the ball and Oyarzabal sent Andre Onana the wrong way to make it 1-1.
