OXFORD — One college basketball analyst is unimpressed with Ole Miss basketball.
The Rebels (22-11) are a No. 6 seed in the NCAA tournament. Ole Miss will face either No. 11 North Carolina or No. 11 San Diego State in the first round on Friday (3:05 p.m., TNT).
CBS Sports TV analyst Tim Doyle doesn’t like Ole Miss’ chances, as he laid out on a bracket breakdown show.
“I think Ole Miss is a fraud,” Doyle said. “We were debating if San Diego State or North Carolina would get in. They both get in. Whoever wins that game is beating Ole Miss. Ole Miss gets a lot of love because they played in a great conference. They had a lot of opportunities. Eyeball test. That is a fraud.”
When asked about the comments, Ole Miss coach Chris Beard disagreed.

“I think a lot of things could be said about our team, both good and bad,” Beard said. “But fraud would not be a word that I would think about when I think of this year’s Ole Miss team.”
Beard pointed out Ole Miss earned 10 wins in the SEC, which earned a record 14 bids in the NCAA tournament. The Rebels have wins over Alabama and Tennessee — both No. 2 seeds — as well as some nice nonconference results.

“Some interesting things about our resume, we didn’t lose this year to a team that’s not in the NCAA tournament,” Beard said. “Road wins. Nonconference. BYU, in the NCAA tournament. Colorado State, in the NCAA tournament. Louisville, in the NCAA tournament. Purdue, we lost a one-possession game in overtime.”
The Rebels are making their first NCAA tournament appearance since 2019.
“I think we’ve got a good team,” Beard said. “We just played in what people are calling the best conference in the history of college basketball, as the tournament starts. We’ll see how it plays out.”
