Forever 21, a once-thriving fast-fashion powerhouse of its time, is set to permanently close all its stores across the U.S. as it files for bankruptcy for a second time.
Brad Sell, the company’s chief financial officer, said in a statement on Sunday the affordable fashion retailer has been “unable to find a sustainable path forward,” citing the company’s inability to keep up with fierce foreign competition from fast-fashion groups, as well as rising costs, economic challenges and evolving consumer trends. It was reported in February the affordable fashion retailer was considering bankruptcy for a second time since 2019.
The company said its stores and website would remain open for the time being, but stores would undergo liquidation sales as the company “begins the process of winding down operations.”
A decade ago, Forever 21 was the go-to for trendy teen clothing, offering affordable fashion while churning out over 400 new designs daily. The company added it was seeking a buyer for some or all of its assets.
