FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY KEY MESSAGES:
FRIDAY MORNING: Expect high impacts during the morning on Friday, with a wintry mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain beginning in the west around 2 a.m. Possible travel trouble spots will develop on elevated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses, especially as heavier precipitation begins. This could lead to rapid accumulations on exposed surfaces and grassy areas.

FRIDAY AFTERNOON: Late morning into lunchtime will bring a rain/snow transition line. The freezing line will lift to the north; however, cold air damming to the east may keep temperatures near 32º. While precipitation may change to rain in many areas, parts of East Alabama could experience significant freezing rain accumulations through the afternoon. The rain/snow transition may briefly lift as far north as the Alabama/Tennessee state line, with cold rain further south.
FRIDAY NIGHT: The rain/snow line will start moving south again, bringing another round of wintry mix, snow showers, or flurries across the area before precipitation ends. Most of the precipitation will exit the area by 11 p.m., with only a few lingering flurries. Plan for patchy black ice on Saturday morning, with lows in the 20s. Temperatures will improve Saturday, with highs reaching the mid to upper 30s.
