The Final Destination franchise is coming back to life with a sixth movie titled Final Destination: Bloodlines, which is changing Death’s rules again but with a key twist. The 2000s saw a rise in teen horror movies, but amid all the slasher movies came Final Destination in 2000. Directed by James Wong, Final Destination introduced Alex Browning (Devon Sawa), who, after a vision of the plane he was in exploding, saved himself and other passengers. However, as they cheated Death, they began dying one by one in mysterious circumstances and in the order they would have died on the plane.
The success of Final Destination led to it becoming a franchise, with all four movies that followed sharing the same premise of a character having a catastrophic but prophetic vision of an accident and saving themselves and others. Death’s rules have changed in every Final Destination movie so far, so it’s not surprising that Bloodlines will also change them. However, plot details about Final Destination: Bloodlines point to the rules changing with one big twist regarding the lead character, which can be greatly beneficial to the franchise as it can explain its biggest mystery.
Final Destination 6 Is Giving A Twist To Its Main Character By Changing Death’s Rules
The Main Character’s Twist Is The Biggest Change To Death’s Rules
With the release of the first teaser trailer for Final Destination: Bloodlines finally came plot details. Final Destination: Bloodlines will follow Stefanie, a college student tormented by a violent recurring nightmare. Stefanie’s grandmother once predicted the collapse of a building and saved a group of people from death. Now, decades later, Stefanie is having visions of death as well and eventually realizes there’s a sequence in those deaths. This means that, for the first time in the franchise, the lead character isn’t involved in the deathly event that triggers the movie.
For some reason that’s to be uncovered, Death has targeted her family for a long time.
As mentioned above, every Final Destination movie begins with one character having a very vivid and horrifying vision of an accident that kills them and many other people. The main character then saves as many people as they can (either intentionally or unintentionally), which makes all of them Death’s targets for days. It’s understood that Stefanie’s visions, just like those of her grandmother’s, don’t include her as a victim, but for some reason that’s to be uncovered, Death has targeted her family for a long time.
Final Destination: Bloodlines was initially said to be set in the world of first responders, with firefighters, EMTs, and police officers, so it’s also to be seen if this is still the case or if the story went through a couple of changes. If this is still the setting, it will make Stefanie’s story all the more interesting and special, as none of the Final Destination lead characters have been involved in the accidents that way, which would also make Death’s plan different.
Final Destination 6 Can Finally Give An Origin To The Visions
The Franchise’s Biggest Mystery Is The Origin Of The Visions
The visions are the triggering event in all Final Destination movies so far, but these haven’t been explored in depth. Instead, the movies focus on the efforts of the main character to stop Death’s plan and save themselves and the rest as soon as possible. None of these characters have had this type of visions before, which makes them even more intriguing, raising questions about the visions being random or maybe Death choosing the hosts – Death doesn’t like to be cheated, but the visions could be part of its plan, too.
Read MoreThe Final Destination saga never explains the origin of the premonitions, but one theory does and makes Death’s design a lot scarier.
By making the visions a generational thing that originated in the 1960s with the protagonist’s grandmother, Final Destination: Bloodlines can finally give an origin to the visions. The plot details of Bloodlines imply that Stefanie’s grandmother wasn’t meant to be one of the victims of the collapsed building, but she still had the vision of that catastrophe – and with Stefanie having these visions too, Final Destination: Bloodlines will have to explain why the visions are happening and why Stefanie is having them too.
Final Destination 6 Will Explain William Bludworth’s Connection To All The Accidents
Another Big Franchise Mystery Is William Bludworth’s Real Role
Another big mystery that Final Destination: Bloodlines can solve, and that its twist with its main character and Death’s rules can help with, is everything about William Bludworth (Tony Todd). Bludworth is the only character from the previous Final Destination movies who returns in Bloodlines, and his presence in the movies has raised many questions. It has even been theorized that Bludworth is Death itself, as he knows a bit too much about Death’s plans, rules, and how the characters could attempt to cheat it, but will most likely fail.
Tony Todd passed away on November 6, 2024.
Final Destination: Bloodlines has also been said to explore Bludworth’s past, so any flashbacks to the 1960s to follow Stefanie’s grandmother could offer some answers about his backstory and link to all these deathly events. Final Destination: Bloodlines is doing things differently, which is what the franchise needs to successfully come back to life.
