FA Cup LIVE: Watch Man City vs Salford City & follow scores & updates from third round
- We’ll be back for seven more games tomorrow, including Arsenal v Manchester United which is on BBC One. Plus the fourth-round draw.
- Check out Match of the Day tonight at 22:30 GMT on BBC One and the iPlayer.
- Shall we have a little recap of today?
- Plymouth won 1-0 at Brentford in the biggest shock of the day. League One Exeter beat Championship Oxford too.
- Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Salford was the biggest victory of the day, while Chelseas beat Morecambe 5-0.
- Brighton, Liverpool, Leicester and Bournemouth all won by four-goal margins.
- And the last game of the day was the only one to go to penalties as Coventry knocked out Sheffield Wednesday.
- You can watch highlights of all those games on our FA Cup index.
- FT: Leeds 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Harrogate boss Simon Weaver told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I’m immensely proud, you never know how it’ll go. Proud to march on together, proper arena. Slight concern, top players coming at you with full force of their crowd. To a man they raised to the challenge. I hope they take that sink or swim moment forward in their own careers.
- “We probably should have had a penalty, disappointed but that could have brought another level from Leeds. It would have been nice but put aside any disappointment tonight.
- “We’re a relatively new club at league level, new fans, even if they’re Leeds fans through. Need them, more noise. We don’t expect 35,000 at our gates, can’t fit them in, we would like 4,000.
- “Loved every minute. Was looking at the clock, we were ticking off targets as we went through the game. We were in it throughout. Confidence up, shoulders back, means the world. Won’t sleep, not for worry, just enjoying the occasion.”
- FT: Leeds 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Leeds boss Daniel Farke told BBC Radio 5 Live: “I know how difficult these are. The games of their season, game of their lives – they gave everything. We rotated and rested. Well done to them, they defended with everything, relentless.
- “We had to tire them to find opener, we had to be switched on to the end as we didn’t find the second goal but good to have a clean sheet.
- “It’s useful to try players in different position, some coming back from injury, full debuts. We need the whole group, spirit and togetherness – it’s priceless for that. Maybe we can go a few more rounds, of course not risking anything for league.
- “If we wouldn’t be motivated for this competition we would stay at home and let other teams progress. I’m a big believer in cup competitions without doing anything stupid. We had to rest some who had physical problems.”
- FT: Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday (4-3 pens)
- Steve Ogrizovic
- Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR
- Well done Norman Bassette.

- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said Kyle Walker is looking at the possibility of moving abroad.
- Walker was left out of today’s 8-0 FA Cup third round victory against League Two Salford.
- Asked in his post-match press conference for the reasons behind his omission, Guardiola said: “Two days ago Kyle asked to explore the option to play abroad.
- “He went to (director of football) Txiki Begiristain. For that reason I prefer to play (players) whose mind is here.”
- Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- Wednesday keeper Pierce Charles just about claws the latest Coventry corner away. There’s been a few recentyl. Now the Northern Ireland international punches away a cross.

- The good thing from the keepers’ point of view is you can only be a hero if it goes to a penalty shootout.

- Manchester City
- Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “We won finally a game with a good margin, all respect for Salford. It was not easy with the man marking but we were clinical up front and happy with the performance.”
- On James McAtee: “I’m so happy for him, he’s a special player. Scoring a hat-trick is not easy. He started a little bit flat but afterwards he has incredible sense in front of goal. He has the right tempo, he changed the rhythm to score.
- “So I’m really happy for him and for Nico O’Reilly, who was playing a position he’d never played before at left-back. We have a lot of problems in that position. We could have played Josko [Gvardiol] or Rico [Lewis] but they need to rest with the amount of games that are coming and that they’ve played in the past.
- “Jeremy [Doku] played really good, so happy for everyone.
- “Of course, [McAtee] can play better. He scored three goals but he can play better. First half was not his best but his work ethic, his composure and his rhythm… he’s a special player.
- “He’s been at City for a long time, a City supporter and he was one of the biggest talents at the academy from the generation of Jadon Sancho, Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Liam Delap. He played with these guys and was the captain of them.
- “I’m really, really pleased he’s here with us.”
- On Jack Grealish ending his goal drought: “He made a good assist as well, not just the goal. He scored a goal, made an assist. Jack’s a special player, not always one to score a lot of goals but it depends on him.
- “If he can perform well, he’ll take the opportunity to keep going and going.
- “All the players depend on the performance in training sessions and when they have minutes to play. It’s simple, not just for Jack, for all of them.
- “I’ve been manager here for more than 500 games and we’ve made an incredible 487 or 488 games. Then we had 11, 12 or 13 bad games.
- “The problem that we’ve had is that we’ve had an incredible amount of injuries so we could not train and we could not compete. It’s so difficult but step by step, people are coming back.
- “This season or maybe next season, new players come in and you have to fight for your position. When someone pushes you, you have competition and you give your best.”
- Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- Golden goal wasn’t bad but who remembers silver goal? Awful idea.
- Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- Steve Ogrizovic

- You don’t often get good extra time periods as most players are tired.
- I liked the old golden goal. I don’t know why they don’t look into that.

- We need a cup run and we need to start winning games.
- Frank Lampard is going absolutely crazy.
- He has a point, the referee needs help from his officials.
- Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- Frank Lampard is adamant that his side should have a free-kick but play goes on. Lots of fans left before full-time to get out of the chill and it’s the visitors who look the more likely to score now.

- Salford manager Karl Robinson has just been into the press conference room.
- He wasn’t too downcast at his side’s hammering by Manchester City.
- He even managed to crack a joke after his side’s six-match run without conceding a goal came to a shuddering end.
- “I have told the players if someone had told me we would concede eight goals in seven games I would have taken it,” he said.
- “I just didn’t expect it to be all in one match.”
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Alan Shearer
- Former England striker on BBC iPlayer
- A tough afternoon for Salford.
- I hope it doesn’t affect them going forward as they’re in a great position and they have an experienced manager who has been around the block.
- The quicker they can try to forget this, the better it will be for them.
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Joe Hart
- Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC One
- Jack Grealish had a really good night. He didn’t look like a guy out of form.
- The attacking play was based around where Jack was.
- Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- It’s Wednesday who have all the momentum now, Barry Bannan makes them such a better side and his cross is turned in at the far post by goalscorer Anthony Musaba – but he’s offside this time.
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Salford City
- Salford boss Karl Robinson speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “You always know you’re at the mercy of the quality of the competition. Man City and Pep have never disrespected anybody and tonight they showed us why they are what they are and why he is who he is. It’s about dusting ourselves off, we’ve come on so much in 12 months and to be where we are in the league. We have one goal and that is to get out of this league. This is a glimmer of what we want to be and we know we’ve got so much to improve and we know where we want to be.
- “I said to the players I would have taken eight goals conceded in seven games, I just didn’t expect them to all come in one. We’re proud of them, I really am. They never let me down. We make human error but that’s part of the level we’re at. Some of the things we weren’t so good at, we’ll make sure we’re better. We’ll learn because of today.
- “For me, it’s not a case of me trying to pick them up or have a go at them. You take it in the chin. You hope for these glamour ties and we managed to get it. This was never a game we would look at and use as a disappointment moving forward. We make sure we plan properly for our next game.”
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has brought the Salford City players into his team’s dressing room afterwards. Which means we’re still waiting for his post-match interview.
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Alan Shearer
- Former England striker on BBC One
- I thought Jack Grealish did everything that he could have done. He has had a tough time and Pep has called him out.
- Pep has put him back in the team, it will have been a kick up the backside and you’ve got to go out and show a reaction and he has done that.

- I think it’s simply disrespectful after Man City’s current run together with their club status to put eight past Salford tonight! They couldn’t be more disrespect tonight! Shameful!!
- FT: Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday
- Steve Ogrizovic
- Ex-Coventry City goalkeeper on BBC CWR
- Sheffield Wednesday haven’t done enough to score all night but while Coventry were down to 10 men they scramble one in. It looked like a comfortable win for Coventry.
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Joe Hart
- Former Man City goalkeeper on BBC One
- Man City looked clinical and looked hungry.
- They didn’t look desperate, they were patient and the finishing was top-class. I felt for [Salford keeper] Matty Young tonight, there were balls flying past him – some top finishing.
- FT: Coventry 1-1 Sheffield Wednesday

- Right at the end!
- Coventry were down to 10 men as Luis Binks had a cut eye and while they re-organised a header from a corner is turned in by Anthony Musaba.
- Unbelievably we are going to have extra-time.
- FT: Man City 8-0 Salford
- Alan Shearer
- Former England striker on BBC One
- We have seen top teams be done by lesser teams because they have not had the right attitude, but there was none of that tonight.
- At half-time we thought what are City going to do?
- They were so good and they created so many chances.

- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Save! Coventry almost score an own goal as a Barry Bannan cross is helped on but Oliver Dovin does well to turn it away.
- A corner…
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- The match stats say that both sides have played a negative number of passes in the opposing half. I think that is a glitch. It’s not been a good game but not that bad…
- Five minutes added on.
- FT: Leeds United 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Paul Robinson
- Former Leeds United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
- Simon Weaver and his Harrogate Town team deserve a lot of credit for what they’ve done today. They kept themselves in the game and only lost by one goal. Leeds never really looked in trouble but at 1-0 it was never safe or secure. A good win for Leeds United but an excellent display by Simon Weaver and his Harrogate team.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Coventry have the ball in the net! But there’s a foul given on Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles. That looked a generous decision.

- Anon: McAtee was excellent on loan for the Blades. He will be a successful premier league player once he leaves City to get first-team football.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Five minutes left of normal time. A reminder that we do not have replays any more so a Wednesday goal would trigger a further 30 minutes. At least.

- Man City hat-trick hero James McAtee speaking to BBC Match of the Day: “I was quite frustrated in the first half, wasn’t seeing much of the ball. When the first one went in, my confidence was up and I kept scoring.
- “I’ve been here since I was 10 and it’s a special moment for me. Something I’ll remember forever. I don’t think I needed to prove myself but to get out there and show people what I can do, it’s a good moment for me.”

- More than respectable result for Harrogate Town against their local rivals. 69 places between Championship and League Two. Two penalty claims for the Harrogate side which might have been given under VAR.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Into the last 15 minutes or so at Coventry where the hosts still lead in a very low quality affair.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate Town

- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Harrogate have a free kick in the Leeds half…

- Man City 8-0 Salford
- The referee has some sympathy for Salford and doesn’t add any injury time. As the clock hits 90:00 the final whistle goes.

- James McAtee is picked as the man of the match by Danny Murphy.
- Leeds United 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Paul Robinson
- Former Leeds United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
- It’s been a dominant performance. The scoreline might not suggest that but possession wise and opportunities – Leeds have controlled the game. At the same time at 1-0, it has never been overly comfortable for them.

- Conor McAleny shoots wide from Salford’s corner.
- Man City 8-0 Salford
- Salford bring on 16-year-old striker Will Wright.
- As an Oxford fan, I know that’s right out of the Karl Robinson textbook. He has fielded three of the FA Cup’s youngest 10 players ever apparently – including 15-year-old Marshall Heys earlier this season.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- We will have four minutes of stoppage time.
- Can Harrogate fashion one more chance?
- Man City 8-0 Salford
- Jon Taylor almost scores for Salford. He runs onto a through ball and hammers in a shot which Ederson parries wide.

- BBC commentator on BBC One
- This is going to hurt for Salford.
- Humiliation? No because there’s been an awful lot of effort.
- There’s just a gulf in class.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Wednesday subs combine as Barry Bannan sends Jamal Lowe into the area, he finds half a yard of space to shoot but Luis Binks does well to get across and make a block.
- Leeds United 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Paul Robinson
- Former Leeds United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
- It was a brilliant tackle from Willy Gnonto to set Mateo Joseph free initially. I think Joseph puts too much on the ball through to Dan James and James Belshaw comes out and closes the angle down to make a good save with his legs.

- Nice and patient from Man City.
- I’m really pleased for James McAtee, he has been really good. He has been patient this season and waited for the minutes.

- Hat-trick. James McA-three.
- Patient passing move from Manchester City and Jack Grealish picks out James McAtee, standing near the penalty spot, and he slides the ball into the back of the net.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Mateo Joseph shoots narrowly over from just outside the area.
- This game is still simmering, will it boil over in the final six minutes plus added time?
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Magic man Barry Bannan is on. For his next trick he needs to conjure up a goal from somewhere for Sheffield Wednesday.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Warren Burrell is a lucky boy, as he misjudges the flight of the ball and kicks Largie Ramazani instead.
- Burrell was the last man, but as he was in the centre circle he gets away with a yellow as it wasn’t a clear scoring chance.
- Leeds United 1-0 Harrogate Town
- Paul Robinson
- Former Leeds United goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live
- It’s a long ball from Harrogate straight down the middle – James Daly with a really good flick on. Karl Darlow comes flying out of his goal and times it to perfection. If Josh March gets anything on that then he’s round the goalkeeper and it’s a penalty.
Page 6
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Ooooh, Josh March nearly chases down a long ball but Karl Darlow does well to sprint from his goal and dive at the feet of the striker.
- Darlow took March as well as the ball, but it wasn’t a foul, just really brave goalkeeping.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Both keepers have made one save today. Manchester City have scored seven of their eight shots on target.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Yan Valery plays a neat one-two into the Coventry area and then puts a lovely ball across goal – but there’s no movement at all ahead of him and the chance has gone.
- The full-back opens his arms out and asks where his team-mates were. Not without reason.
- Man City 7-0 Salford

- Good effort from Cole Stockton. Salford are committing men forward.
- They have changed to a back four and they’ve been conceding chances since, but it allows them to get bodies forward.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Ilkay Gundogan turns in the box and has a shot blocked. Still over 10 minutes for the hosts to add more goals.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- A Leeds attack breaks down due to an offside, but Largie Ramazani still takes a shot on goal, hitting the post.
- Ramazani is booked for kicking the ball away. Harsh.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Salford win the ball off Mateo Kovacic and Cole Stockton shoots just wide with a first-time effort from outside the box.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Manchester City last reached this score in the FA Cup on 6 January 2019, beating Rotherham 7-0.
- Jon Taylor was in that Rotherham team and today’s Salford team…
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Harrogate Town have only won one of their last eight League Two games, but they are bringing the best of themselves today.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Changes for both sides.
- Levi Sutton is replaced by Stephen Dooley for Harrogate, while there is a double Leeds sub – Manor Solomon and Sam Byram come off for Dan James and Junior Firpo.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- Coventry have had 10 shots to the one of Wednesday – and yet they only lead by one. Will they rue those missed opportunities in the remaining half hour?
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Jeremy Doku, who has ripped Salford to shreds today, is replaced by Mateo Kovacic. Guardiola gives him a hug as he comes off.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Danny Murphy
- Former England midfielder on BBC One
- James McAtee in onside. He stays back, Curtis Tilt.
- A great touch from McAtee, takes it under control so quickly.
- Man City 7-0 Salford
- Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, Salford’s co-owners and former Manchester United team-mates, don’t look like they’re enjoying this.

- Fantastic to see how involved Pep is in this game. City have a lot of ground to recover to get back to their best and Pep fully committed to achieve that.
- James McAtee (72 mins)
- It’s getting very routy now.
- Phil Foden shoots from outside the box, not his best effort, and James McAtee controls the ball and slots it into the bottom corner.
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Here’s how the Championship leaders – finally – took the lead…
- Man City 6-0 Salford
- Salford send on forwards Cole Stockton and Conor McAleny.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- This game is starting to come to life! Moments after that great Wednesday chance it’s a double chance for the hosts as first Ellis Simms sees a shot beaten out by Pierce Charles, and then following up Victor Torp cannons in a shot and Charles saves well with his legs.
- Man City 6-0 Salford
- Curtis Tilt was very angry with that decision, complaining to the officials still after the goal went in.
Page 7
- Leeds 1-0 Harrogate
- Harrogate are suddenly putting Leeds under a lot of pressure. Toby Sims has a shot deflected wide following a free kick.
- The resulting corner is too easy for Karl Darlow to claim.
- Man City 6-0 Salford
- Danny Murphy
- Former England midfielder on BBC One
- It is a penalty. Not a difficult decision for the referee.
- Jeremy Doku has been really good today. Great attitude and great quality – he is a real handful. He has been excellent.
- Man City 6-0 Salford
- Manchester City are obviously running a ‘if you win the penalty, you get to take it’ scheme today.
- Coventry 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday
- It’s a sitter! Wednesday have looked really shot shy all night but one ball in from the right does for the Cov defence and sub Michael Ihiekwe has a free header but he can only put it over the top.
- Got to take those.
- Jeremy Doku (69 mins)
- Jeremy Doku waits for the goalkeeper to go one way and plants the ball in the other corner. Nice penalty.

- “You’re just a town full of tea shops” is the chant away fans sing when they visit Harrogate Town’s ground.
- But the League Two side are determined to defy the image when they take on Leeds United.
- A gulf of almost 70 places separates the two clubs, with Town hovering around the bottom of League Two, while Leeds top the Championship.
- But ahead of the first-ever competitive clash between the two Yorkshire sides, Harrogate said they would show the town was not “too posh for football”.
- “It’s rubbish of course, we love football here,” said the club’s chief executive Sarah Barry.
- And it seems the clash has become a talking point in the town, even in the genteel surroundings of its most famous tea shop.

- There was a time when the FA Cup didn’t seem to suit Pep Guardiola so well.

- “This club has lifted the trophy seven times,” says Pep Guardiola in his programme notes.
- “We are proud of our record and believe me, we want to make it eight victories by the end of the season.

- Just the performance and result that Leicester needed after five straight defeats in the Premier League.
- This was actually more of a contest than the scoreline suggests, especially first half, but a player who’s been criticised recently by the Foxes fans, James Justin made the difference.
- You wonder if his two goals will be the confidence boost he needs to rediscover the form that put him within a whisker of an England call-up a few years ago.
- A great start to a huge week for Leicester with two vital Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and Fulham to come. They have to use this cup win as a springboard.
