Denver Broncos to sign former All-Pro safety Talanoa Hufanga, per reports

Talanoa Hufanga is signing with the Denver Broncos as a free agent ahead of the 2025 NFL season. He has agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth up to $45 million, including $20 million guaranteed, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Hufanga was a fifth-round pick by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL draft. He quickly developed into a playmaking safety and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2022, his first season as a full-time starter.

Hufanga totaled 97 tackles, nine pass defenses, four interceptions and two sacks in 17 starts during the 2022 campaign. He allowed an 86.8 passer rating, per Pro Football Focus, and allowed just 29 receptions all season.

Since that breakout year, Hufanga has played just 17 of possible 34 regular-season games while dealing with a couple of injuries. A torn ACL limited him to 10 games in 2023, and held him out as the 49ers made it to Super Bowl 58, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.

In 2024, Hufanga was limited to just seven games because of a wrist injury. He failed to record an interception in those contests but totaled 38 tackles.

Hufanga has plenty of time to bounce back and regain the top form he demonstrated in 2022. The 2025 NFL season will be the USC product’s age-26 campaign and he won’t turn 27 until February.
