Over 55,000 members of the Canadian Union of Post Workers went on strike effective Friday Nov. 15, 2024.
Canada Post and the union representing 55,000 workers on strike appear to be closer to resume negotiations, as the strike reaches week four.
Federal mediation between the two parties were put on hold last week as both sides were described as being “too far apart on critical issues”.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers said it sent new counter-proposals earlier this week to the mediator in hopes that talks can resume.
The Crown company said that it is reviewing those proposals.
The business community has also increased pressure this week on the federal government to intervene in the ongoing strike.
The Retail Council of Canada said the country-wide strike is putting thousands of business and their employees in jeopardy.
The government has so far said it is not stepping in.
