The Cleveland Browns officially announced this morning that they have fired Offensive Line Coach Andy Dickerson following an incredibly disappointing season in the trenches.
Though he was somewhat highly regarded in the coaching world, Dickerson was more so known for his ability to develop younger offensive linemen rather than being an actual coach for a veteran unit.
Seattle’s offensive line wasn’t very good during his time with the Seahawks prior to being hired in Cleveland, but he was able to develop their young offensive tackles into solid contributors. His gravitation towards the X’s and O’s side of things as well as his limitation of being more of a “1-on-1” coach clouded his effectiveness in 2024.
That being said, it’s time to move on and check out some of the other coaches who might be available for the Browns in 2025.
A few realistic names to keep an eye on for Cleveland are:
Chris Foerster – 49ers OL Coach/Run Game Coordinator
Landing Foerster would be a home run for Cleveland, especially with the team’s offensive state right now. He has a long history of producing above-average offensive line units as well as being known as one of the better wide/outside-zone coaches. He would be an excellent pairing for Kevin Stefanski and his style of offense.
Tony Sparano Jr. – Colts OL Coach
Sparano Jr. is being tabbed as one of the next “big things” in the OL coaching world, primarily due to his ability to make things work in Indianapolis. The Colts’ offensive line isn’t known for its high-quality personnel besides LG Quenton Nelson, who’s a perennial All-Pro.
Zak Kromer – Rams Asst. OL Coach
Kromer is undoubtedly known as one of the best Asst. OL Coaches in the league right now and he’s spent a good portion of his career working in a similar offensive scheme to what Kevin Stefanski runs. Any OL coach who has a lengthy history in a variety of wide-zone/play-action schemes would be HUGE for Cleveland.
James Cregg – Former Raiders OL Coach
Yes, Cregg was recently fired from Las Vegas but he’s still fairly well regarded. His work at the collegiate level at LSU along with his time spent with Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco have molded him into a nice option for what the Browns might be looking for.
Hank Fraley – Lions OL Coach
Fraley is a former Browns center who has skyrocketed in the coaching ranks for turning Detroit’s offensive line into one of the better units in the league. His development of both Frank Ragnow and Penei Sewell also can’t be understated enough.
