Men’s college basketball’s game of the year is nearing tip-off.
No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Alabama matchup in Tuscaloosa, AL. for the first AP 1-2 matchup between SEC teams in conference history. The game represents more than a historic, deep-seeded rivalry โ it’s a battle that could tilt the college basketball world off its axis. Auburn and Alabama enter the matchup with just five total losses combined this year, and each team ranks in the top 10 nationally in points per game.
Two teams headlined by Wooden Award candidates and their rosters from top to bottom, expect a down-to-the-wire affair that could play a role in the rest of each’s season and become a landmark moment for the rivalry in years to come.

Auburn and Alabama will meet in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, the first 1-2 matchup in SEC history and only the sixth time since the creation of the AP poll that a 1-2 game features teams from the same state.
The Tigers are coming in hot off a 12-point win over Vanderbilt and tied its second-best 24-game start in program history with the 80-68 victory. Auburn is one of two SEC teams to remain undefeated in conference play on the road, currently sitting at 6-0. Chaney Johnson and Johni Broome combined for 31 of the Tigers’ 46 second-half points to mark its twelfth double-digit victory of the season against the Commodores on Feb. 11. Johnson put up a career-high of 20 points, going 9 for 10 from the field. Broome tallied 17 points, seven rebounds, three blocks and two assists.
The Crimson Tide are also coming off a blowout road win, dominating Texas 103-80 in Austin. Jarin Stevenson recorded a season-high of 22 points, going 7 for 8 from the field and 4 of 5 from 3-point range. Mark Sears added 18 points, three assists and two rebounds. Alabama has now tallied an seven-game conference win streak, scoring at least 80 points in each matchup.
When these top-two teams meet, the No. 1 spot in SEC standings will be on the line โ as well as likely the No. 1 national ranking for Monday’s AP Top 25 Poll. Both program sit at 10-1 in conference play.
Broome ranks No. 2 overall with 18.1 points per game for the Tigers, headlining an efficient offense that ranks first in the SEC with a field goal percentage of 48.6%.
The two teams last met in Auburn last February, with the No. 12 Tigers taking down the No. 16 Crimson Tide with an 18-point victory. Broome and Jaylin Williams combined for 50 of the Tigers’ 99 points.
