Adam Sandler Crashes Oscars Wearing a Sweatshirt, Yells ‘Chalamet!’ in Timothée’s Ear

Adam Sandler may not be nominated at this year’s Oscars, but that didn’t stop the actor and comedian from crashing Conan O’Brien’s opening monologue at the top of the ceremony. Sandler was roasted by the host for dressing so casually at Hollywood’s biggest night.

“Adam, what are you wearing?” O’Brien asked Sandler from the stage. “You’re dressed like a guy playing video poker at 2 a.m.”

“Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up,” Sandler responded. “I like the way I look. Because I’m a good person. I don’t care about what I wear and what I don’t wear. My snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front my peers!”

The segment then saw Sandler electing to leave the ceremony, much to the dissatisfaction of the audience, but not before shouting out one particular nominee for the evening.

“Chalamet!” he yelled into Timothée Chalamet’s ear in a typically Sandlerian growl, giving the yellow-clad “A Complete Unknown” a big hug and drawing laughs from the crowd.

On the way out, Sandler also invited everyone in the room to “a game of five-on-five basketball at Veteran Park tonight. Midnight tipoff, the guy from… ‘Nosterafu,’” trucking through a gaffe on the horror movie’s correct title. “He’s on my team.”

O’Brien opened the ceremony with a monologue that saw him touching on multiple honorees the evening, kicking off with a clip of him emerging out of Demi Moore’s back in a segment that utilized footage from the body horror best picture nominee “The Substance.” O’Brien also addressed the elephant in the room: the controversy that erupted over “Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón’s offensive social media posts.

“Little fact for you: ‘Anora’ uses the F-word 479 times,” O’Brien said. “That’s three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.” O’Brien then pitched his voice up to imitate Gascón’s reps — “You tweeted WHAT?!”
