Liverpool FC steamrolled Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 in a mauling to book their spot in the Carabao Cup final, securing their first opportunity at silverware this season.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the win, head coach Arne Slot was about as happy as he could be at making a cup final in his first attempt, but took note of potential difficulties:
“There is one downside to us reaching the final and that is that we have to play Villa during the week.”
“But that’s not a negative, it’s a positive because players like to play games and they get stronger by playing games.”
As Slot noted, Liverpool’s March 15 fixture away at Aston Villa has been moved to 19 February instead as a result of making the Carabao Cup Final. With the postponed Merseyside Derby happening in a week, it makes for a pretty jam-packed month, which now looks like this:
9 February: Plymouth Argyle (A) – FA Cup
13 Feb: Everton (A) – Premier League
16 Feb: Wolves (H) – Premier League
19 Feb: Aston Villa (A) – Premier League
24 Feb: Man City (A) – Premier League
27 Feb: Newcastle United (H) – Premier League
Thankfully, it’s a good problem to have and the sort of thing good teams navigate on a consistent basis. The trip to the Etihad also doesn’t look as difficult as it would have in any other season, so it’s not looking so bad. Liverpool have also gotten most of their players back from injury, and look primed to go on a run this month as they aim to kill off the title race.
The 2025 Carabao Cup Final will be played at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, Mar. 16, 2025. The Reds and the Magpies last met in an electric 3-3 Premier League draw in early December at St. James Park. As noted earlier, they will face off for the return league fixture at Anfield at the end of the month before the final.
