NEW ALBANY, Ohio — Authorities arrested the suspect in a shooting at a New Albany, Ohio warehouse that left one person dead and five others injured.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Bruce Foster III, had been at work “for some time” at the KDC/ONE warehouse before the shooting, according to New Albany Police Chief Greg Jones. It’s unclear how long Foster has worked at the facility.
An arrest warrant filed in Licking County Common Pleas Court states that Foster is charged with aggravated murder.
Foster was arrested near the Short North Arts District in Columbus Wednesday afternoon.
Detectives are also looking into a possible motive behind the incident. The police chief said that there were no reports of any confrontation or dispute prior to the shooting.
Columbus City Schools confirmed Foster was a student in the district. He attended Brookhaven High School, which no longer exists, from 2010-14 and Clinton Middle School in 7th and 8th grade.
Columbus State Community College said Foster transferred from the University of Akron to the community college in 2017 and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in May 2019.
Case dockets in Franklin County Municipal Court show that Foster did not have a history of arrests or convictions for violent crimes.
Around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 4, New Albany police officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the warehouse. Officers entered the building and found six people who were shot.
One of them was pronounced dead at the scene. The other five were taken to hospitals for treatment. All of the victims in the shooting worked at the facility.
About 150 people were evacuated to a neighboring building, Jones said.
Jones said Foster left the area before police arrived. He added that Foster does not drive, but was seen on camera leaving the area in a car. Police were not able to identify the license plate number of the car.
Jones described the shooting as a “targeted type of attack” and he reiterated Wednesday morning that police don’t believe the suspect poses a general threat to the public. A handgun was found at the scene, Jones said.
Foster was arrested Wednesday morning at a home on East 7th Avenue near the Short North Arts District.
“This has been a very tragic situation. Our thoughts go out to the victims, their families and everybody that works at this facility. This is something that we hoped would never happen in our community, but we prepare for it, and this is where we are now,” Jones said.
