Sweden shooting: What all do we know about Sweden’s school shooting that killed 10 people

In a tragic incident, at least 10 people died in a shooting at a school premises in Sweden’s Orebro on Tuesday, in what has been described as the worst mass shooting in Sweden’s history.

The gunman is believed to be among those reported dead as the police continue to search the school premises for other possible victims. The motive behind the shooting by the gunman remains unclear.

According to a BBC report, the police received first information of a shootout at a school premises at 12:33 local time in Orebro, a city 200 km west of capital Stockholm.

The shooting took place at Campus Risbergska, a classification of school for adults known as Komvux in Swedish and it is meant for those who haven’t finished their primary or secondary education. There were other schools on the premises.

Teachers said that they heard the shots being fired which led them to either flee the classrooms or barricade themselves inside it. A teacher Maria Pegado said, “I saw people dragging injured out, first one, then another. I realised it was very serious.”

What is the death toll and how many were injured?

At least 10 people have died in the shooting, which also includes the perpetrator who led the firing at the school campus. However, the police have said that they “could not be more specific” about the number as the investigation and search continues.

It wasn’t immediately clear how many people were injured though police chief Forest had said that a large number of people were hurt. Sweden’s justice minister at a press briefing said that there were “many others injured”.

According to police, the gunman who is believed to be dead, acted alone in the shootout. Orebero’s police chief Forest said that the attacker wasn’t known to police before the shootout and had no connection to a gang.

Forest was asked whether the gunman lived in Orebero, to which he responded that “We’re working with secret services but as far as I know, it’s a person unknown to police.”

When asked if the gunman shot himself during the shootout at the school premises, police informed that they didn’t have any information related to it.
