Raye is up for several major awards tonight, including Best New Artist and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical (for her work on Lucky Daye’s Algorithm). This year’s Grammy Awards marks a significant milestone for the singer, following her journey from being an industry songwriter to debuting as a solo artist with her album My 21st Century Blues.

In 2024, Raye told People that earning a Grammy was a dream she had since childhood. “When I was little, the first image I saw was that gorgeous golden gramophone,” she said. “For a British girl, you watch the Grammys at home, like, ‘Wow, one day maybe I’ll make it there.’”

Now, she’s here. The performance caps off a major year for Raye, who won six BRIT awards in 2024 and performed at popular festivals, including the 2024 Global Citizen Festival. Tonight, she joins a roster of other Grammy-nominated performers including Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, and Chappell Roan, among others.

“All the artists on that Best New Artist list, we have all climbed our individual mountains, and been heartbroken in the trenches,” Raye told Marie Claire. “It’s such a beautiful thing to be among those incredible artists who have also fought their way to just being on that list.”
