President Trump announced new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico and Canada Friday afternoon, opening up a new front in a trade war that could soon engulf numerous U.S. trade partners, including allies and enemies alike.

This opening salvo has some China hawks concerned that the president is spreading himself too thin, and that his spats with friendly countries underscores his lack of commitment to weaning America off its dependence on cheap, Chinese imports.
