Anthony Davis ruled out after exiting game vs. Sixers with abdominal strain

With an opportunity to extend their winning streak on Tuesday, the Lakers were dealt an injury blow to Anthony Davis.

The big man played the first 10 minutes of the first quarter before subbing out and heading to the locker room. He did not return in the first half and was initially ruled as questionable to return due to what the team called an abdominal strain.

He would, however, be ruled out for the remainder of the game during halftime.

Without AD, the Lakers’ defense turned into a layup line, perhaps quite predictably. In his absence, Jaxson Hayes struggled mightily, leading to more minutes from Christian Koloko.

With the team having a congested road schedule as part of the Grammy trip, being without AD for this stretch would be particularly detrimental. The Lakers have a fairly soft schedule on the road trip, giving them a chance to potentially make a run up the Western Conference standings.

That, however, becomes rather difficult if AD is not available, to say the least. The second quarter of the Lakers’ game against the Sixers showed just how bad things can get if he’s not available for an extended stretch.

The Lakers will be back in action on Thursday when they face the Wizards before playing the Knicks on Saturday.
