Good news for the Jets: Bears have hired a new head coach

Both Detroit Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn are expected to land head coaching jobs this coaching cycle, according to multiple reports.

The New York Jets were handed some positive news relating to their search for a new head coach thanks to the Chicago Bears.

On Monday, another head coach vacancy was filled and it was in Chicago. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Bears have tabbed Detroit Lions offense coordinator Ben Johnson as their next bench boss:

Like the Jets, the Bears have interviewed many candidates for the role, up to 17. Despite the Lions being upset by the Washington Commanders in the divisional round of the NFL postseason this past weekend, most expected Johnson to still be coveted.

Now sticking with the Jets, the same can be said for Aaron Glenn.

Glenn was Johnson’s counterpart in Detroit, the team’s defensive coordinator. It also was reported that Glenn will have a second interview for the Jets’ head coaching vacancy this week.

The Johnson update means a job has been filled around the NFL and Glenn won’t be heading to Chicago. He did previously interview there.

On top of that, Johnson did not interview in New York. The Jets were never connected to him as a candidate, so a position is filled and none of New York’s candidates are off the board.

Jets Wire will continue to provide updates on the team’s search for a head coach.
