Tornadoes, severe storms possible this afternoon

NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) – Today is a First Alert Weather Day as the threat for tornadoes and severe weather picks up into this afternoon.

Gusty winds and high humidity are streaming out of the Gulf this morning. Expect the first half of today to be the quiet portion with the active weather beginning around noon.

Through the afternoon into this evening residents are urged to monitor the weather closely. Storms will form rapidly and possibly go severe quickly after the lunch hour. Any storm today will be capable of producing tornadoes, damaging winds and damaging hail.

The tornado threat is elevated with this event as the wind dynamics in the atmosphere could produce strong, long track tornadoes. You need to take any warning today seriously and get to shelter very quickly.

This mess clears us by tonight and Sunday is looking like a beautiful weather day. Highs fall back to around 70 with a cool breeze blowing in.
