A lunar eclipse began around midnight Thursday, with the Earth’s shadow taking a noticeable “bite” out of the moon as the night progresses past 1 AM.
The totality phase, when the moon was completely engulfed in the Earth’s shadow, started just before 2:30 AM. During this period, the moon will take on a striking blood-red hue, a phenomenon that occurs as sunlight is filtered and refracted through the Earth’s atmosphere.
