Alex Jones, the founder of Infowars who falsely claimed the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting was staged by activists looking to curtail gun rights, says Infowars reporter Jamie White was murdered in Austin, Texas on Monday and he blamed billionaire financier George Soros, among others, for the death.
Police have not yet named White as the victim but the Austin Police Department said officers responded to an emergency call at 11:57 p.m. on Sunday to find a man with “obvious signs of trauma” who was taken to hospital where he died, according to CBS Austin.
White’s sister Kelly Kneale told the Daily Mail that her brother was shot while someone was trying to break into his car outside his apartment complex. She said it is not believed to have been a “targeted attack.”
The Daily Beast has reached out to the Austin Police Department for comment.
In an online broadcast, Jones revealed White as the victim and attributed his death to Soros, Joe Biden, Al Green, Hakeem Jeffries, “globalists,” the Democratic Party, and more generally the policies of the Travis County D.A., Jose Garza, whom he referred to as the “Soros D.A.”
The Texas Justice and Public Safety PAC, funded by Soros, spent about $450,000 in support of left-leaning Garza as he campaigned for district attorney in 2020, according to state campaign-finance disclosures.
Crime in Austin has flatlined in recent years but violent crime is still way up compared to pre-pandemic numbers: In 2019, Austin Police Department (APD) reported 36 homicides. In 2024, APD reported 70. Across the U.S., over the same time period, homicide rates in 2024 are slightly down on 2019 numbers.
Jones, in an angry diatribe released on X following the death of White, which is Austin’s eighth homicide of the year, accused the city of having “turned the police into social workers.” He said that parts of Austin, where Infowars is based, were “like a war zone” at night.
Jones said: “Crime is very, very bad here in Austin… it has just exploded the last four years.”
Speaking of White’s death he said: “You saw a little clip from the newscast about this in the early morning hours, it’s just become so routine.”
Jones then attacked Garza as a “leftist DA” and “an actual communist” adding, “Soros put him in, that is on record, he financed his run.”
Jones concluded: “So to the globalists… you murdered Jamie White. You opened the door, you created the climate. You created the conditions on purpose. George Soros, Alexander Soros, you murdered Jamie White. Joe Biden, you murdered Jamie White. The Democratic Party, Hakeem Jeffries, Al Green, you murdered Jamie White and we’re not going to forget him.”
Jones filed for bankruptcy in 2022 after being ordered to pay out a staggering $1.3 billion to bereaved families over his false claims about Sandy Hook and other mass school shootings.
Following the 2012 shooting, which killed 20 children and six educators in Newton, Connecticut, Jones repeatedly told his followers that the tragedy was staged by “crisis actors” who were looking to enact stricter gun policies.
The satirical website The Onion has sought to buy Infowars to turn it into a satirical version of the platform, but faces being outbid by a group linked to Jones.
