The twists and turns in the Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback saga are far from over. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, quarterback Aaron Rodgers has emerged as a serious contender for the team’s open job. Schefter adds the Steelers will speak to Rodgers, but do not plan to make a move until they know what Justin Fields plans on doing.
Rodgers will not be released until the new league year on Wednesday, and it has yet to be reported if the Jets have permitted him to speak with teams just yet, though that likely will come shortly.
The Steelers still would like Fields to be the answer to their quarterback question but have recently opened up their horizons. Sam Darnold has emerged as a target for the team, especially after the DK Metcalf trade.
Rodgers, who the previous Jets regime traded for from the Green Bay Packers, tore his Achilles in his first game with the team. This year, with a full season, he threw for 3897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. However, the Jets finished 5-12 even after acquiring Davante Adams.
The Steelers are not the only team interested in Rodgers. Reportedly, the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings, and Seattle Seahawks will also talk to Rodgers about their vacancies, and they could end up being landing spots for the future Hall of Famer.
