The Dallas Mavericks have endured a nightmare season, beginning with the highly controversial trade of Luka Dončić, a move that sparked outrage among fans and left many questioning their loyalty to the team.

Since then, things have only gotten worse. The Mavericks’ prized acquisition, Anthony Davis, suffered an injury in his first game with the team, adding to their misfortunes. Then came a devastating blow: Kyrie Irving tore his ACL this week, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, with concerns that his recovery could extend beyond that.

To make matters worse, Dallas has also lost two of its key big men, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II, to injuries, leaving them severely shorthanded in the frontcourt. With their roster in shambles and their season spiraling, the Mavericks appear to be dealing with a string of bad luck that just won’t end.

The Suns haven’t been quite as ill-struck as the Mavericks this season, but that might be even more concerning, as the team brought back all of its stars from the last campaign, made some improvements to its backcourt and hired a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, who has a championship on his resume, and yet, sit at 29-34 on the year, right outside of a Play-In Tournament spot.

That has led to a lot of speculation that this could be the final stretch of games of the Kevin Durant era in Phoenix. Regardless, with both Phoenix and Dallas reeling and right on the Play-In Tournament bubble line, there is no doubt both sides will play hard on Sunday.

Tune in to ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon to watch an interesting matchup between the Suns and Mavericks, two teams who are struggling and desperate for a win.
