A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, was completely out of tune with Oscar voters at the 97th Academy Awards Sunday in Los Angeles.
A chronicle of Dylan’s rise on the folk music scene in New York City in the early to mid-1960s, A Complete Unknown was nominated for eight Oscars including Best Picture, Best Directing for James Mangold, Best Actor for Chalamet, Best Supporting Actor for Edward Norton and Best Supporting Actress for Monica Barbaro.

Chalamet seemed to have a legitimate shot at winning Best Actor going into the 97th Oscars, considering he won the prestigious Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor a week ago.

Mick Jagger Gave ‘A Complete Unknown’ A Boost While Presenting The Best Original Song Oscar
One of the surprise presenters at the 97th Academy Awards was the Rolling Stones’ legendary lead singer Mick Jagger, who presented the Best Original Song Oscar to “El Mal” from Emilia Pérez.
Before he announced the winner, however, Jagger said in a seemingly joking manner, “The producers wanted Bob Dylan to do it, but Bob didn’t want to, [saying] ‘The best songs this year are obviously in A Complete Unknown. You should find somebody younger.’ OK, I’m younger than Bob! So here I am.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dylan really was invited to perform and be a presenter at the Oscars 2025 ceremony — which was held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles — but declined.
The romantic comedy Anora swept the major categories it was nominated in at the Oscars Sunday with five wins, including the Oscars for Best Picture, Best Directing for Sean Baker and Best Actress for Mikey Madison.
