Former Knicks first-rounder Quentin Grimes goes off for career-high 44 points in 76ers’ upset win over Warriors

Philadelphia 76ers guard Quentin Grimes had the game of his life on Saturday night.

The former Knicks first-rounder delivered a jaw-dropping and completely random 44-point explosion in a 126-120 victory over the Golden State Warriors.

Grimes had three points on 1-for-4 shooting the game before and only had one game of at least 30 points this season before Saturday.

The unexpected outburst from Grimes, known more for his defensive tenacity and 3-point shooting since being picked by the Knicks at No. 25 in the 2021 draft, left fans and analysts stunned as he torched the Warriors with one of the most efficient scoring performances of his career.

Grimes, who had been averaging modest numbers since being traded to the Sixers from Dallas for Caleb Martin, caught fire early and never cooled down.

He drained six 3-pointers en route to an 18-for-24 shooting display in a game where Tyrese Maxey and Paul George combined for 22 points on 8-for-27 shooting.

Grimes bolstered his averages to 16.8 points on 52 percent shooting and 41 percent from deep in nine games since being dealt to Philly.

For the season, he’s only averaging 11.3 points per game, though he’s hitting nearly 48 percent from the field and north of 40 percent from deep.

His previous career high was 36 points during a Knicks win over the Pacers on April 5, 2023.

With Joel Embiid now out for the season due to an injury, and George struggling in a high-profile way, the Sixers are searching, and Grimes proved he can be a valuable weapon when given the opportunity.

Grimes, who is headed for restricted free agency this summer, is up for a new contract this coming off-season.
