New Austin Reaves Update After Lakers’ Unfortunate Announcement

During their game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Friday night, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that Austin Reaves, who suffered a calf injury after nine minutes of action, will be out for the rest of the game. Before his exit, Reaves recorded six points on 2-for-4 shooting and one block.

Injuries have not been much of a problem for Reaves, especially over the last couple of seasons. The Arkansas native played in all 82 games for the Lakers last season and missed just one five-game stretch in the beginning of December. Naturally, there is some cause for concern given that Reaves has been pretty durable, especially given the latest update.

While it has already been announced that Reaves will be out for the remainder of the Clippers game, there is still some uncertainty about his near future. However, for Reaves and the Lakers, it seems that some clarity is on its way.

According to ESPN’s Dave McMenamin, Reaves is expected to undergo an MRI on his calf on Saturday.

The MRI will provide some more insight on the severity of the injury and how long Reaves may be out for. Hopefully for the Lakers, Reaves’ injury is not too severe.

Two seasons after finishing seventh in Sixth Man of the Year voting, Reaves has turned into a legitimate key contributor for the Lakers. This season, he is averaging 19.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. All of these numbers are career-highs for the 26-year-old.

As the Lakers look to make a push ahead of the postseason, it is crucial for them to continue their recent winning trend with less than two months remaining this season. Whether they will need to do so with or without Reaves, however, is a story worth monitoring.
