Winds will be a little more substantial today than they were yesterday, and that is expected to bring fire danger to some parts of the Sunflower State.
A Fire Weather Warning covers northern into northeastern Kansas until 8 PM.
Despite the extra wind, today will still be a fantastic outdoor day with highs in the 60s and 70s and sunshine.
The wind relaxes tonight, but temperatures will remain relatively mild. Lows for most will be in the 30s.
Saturday turns a bit cooler as winds turn toward the northeast. Still, fairly mild with highs in the 50s and 60s.
Our next storm system arrives on Sunday. Showers develop in western Kansas late Sunday morning, progressing to the east into the afternoon. A thin sliver of instability may support a few rumbles of thunder by the time the showers approach Wichita.
After a break Monday, another system spins up on Tuesday. This one will be much stronger, bringing a day of strong winds and more chances for moisture. The bulk of this storm’s energy passes to our south and ignites a severe weather threat over the lower Mississippi valley.
Wrap around moisture brings a chance of showers and maybe a bit of wintry mix for areas farther north and west. Accumulating snow is not likely.
Another storm system looks possible by late next week. The overall pattern looks quite active for early March, and we may see several opportunities for moisture.
