MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — One person is dead and four others injured after a two-vehicle collision caused one vehicle to catch on fire, closing southbound lanes on a portion of Interstate 270 in Montgomery County for several hours on Friday, according to county officials.
Officials said the crash happened at around 4:15 a.m. on I-270 near Exit 1 (Rockledge Drive and Old Georgetown Road), which caused one vehicle to catch on fire and left one person entrapped.
The person entrapped in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, and four people were taken to the hospital for their injuries, according to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS).
Southbound lanes were closed from 4:30 a.m. to around 8:30 a.m. Officials said to expect residual delays in the area.
